This full animation provides a comprehensive visual demonstration of Stryker’s Pivot Guardian Distraction System, an advanced post-free patient positioning table engineered to optimize setup and precision during hip arthroscopy procedures.
The video presents the system's structural components, beginning with its lightweight modular carbon fiber frame, quick-attach mounting mechanism, built-in gas shocks, and an integrated Lev-O-Gage level indicator designed for precise Trendelenburg positioning. It also details the patient interface elements, showcasing state-of-the-art foot positioners equipped with the BOA® closure system to ensure anatomical placement and prevent foot slippage during joint distraction.
Additionally, the animation highlights the system's ergonomic controls and surgical benefits. Viewers are guided through fine and gross traction adjustments, quick-release height triggers, and integrated force gauges that allow surgeons to monitor tension accurately. By eliminating the traditional perineal post, the system expands the surgeon's intraoperative range of motion, improves fluoroscopic imaging visibility, and helps mitigate post-related patient complications.
Dr Herrera is the first hip specialist in South Florida to use "post-less" hip distraction and an advanced surgical experience . This allows him to have safe distraction of the hip , yet have lower complications that other tables "with post" can cause, such as nerve damage and other traction-related problems. This post-less table is cutting edge which allows the procedure to be done in a more accurate, efficient and safe manner.
He is also the first hip specialistic in South Florida to use Hip Check navigation software during the procedure to ensure that the correct amount of bone has been removed. Prior to this, it was done with an eyeball visual alone, which can, at times, be inaccurate. Most other orthopaedic surgeons use the "eyeball test"and don't use Hip Check.
Dr Herrera has been doing hip arthroscopy since 2003 and performs more hip arthroscopy than any other surgeon in South Florida. He performs over 200 hip arthroscopies a year and is a leader in his field. His expertise and training in this field is unparalleled. It all began when he had the opportunity to train under Dr. Marc Philippon while he was a Sports Medicine fellow at the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. He has been performing hip arthroscopy ever since. Patents from the entire state of Florida, the Carribean and Central/South America come to Miami to have their hip arthroscopies done with Dr Herrera.
He is a co-founder of the Miami Surgery Center Hip Arthroscopy Center of Excellence. This out-patient ambulatory facility specializes in hip arthroscopy, which is why it has all the latest technology, such as the Pivot Guardian Post-Less Distraction Table and Hip Check Navigation software. Patient Reported Outcomes are also collected in order to ensure that the hip procedures being done actually improve our patients' lives. Additionally, the staff (Nursing and Anesthesia) at this facility is specialty trained to take care of hip arthroscopy patients and their specific needs. This is in contrast to hospitals, where staff is rotated, which means you never now who your anesthesiologist or nurse will be. All these factors allow hip arthroscopy patients to have a better experience overall at MSC.
